« Zaytoona »: training of women in difficulty in creation of traditional products from recycled materials
Alashanek Ya Balady (AYB) (“For you my country” in Arabic), Egyptian NGO created in 2002, aims at reducing inequality and poverty in Egypt by supporting deprived populations (through training, job support, entrepreneurial activities, etc.).
In 2012, AccorHotels Egypt and Alashanek Ya Balady worked together to set up project "Zaytoona" (olive, in Arabic), creating a workshop to manufacture traditional products using recycled material. In this workshop, women in need are trained to manufacture and sell local crafts to enable them to become independent.
The Accor Foundation* supported the creation of the “Zaytonna” workshop and the training of 10 women who take part in this pilot project in 2012-2013.
* In 2013, the Accor Foundation became Solidarity Accor.
Thanks to my involvement, I learned that small acts can really make a big difference in human’s life and that we all deserve a chance in life.
