Support for the flood victims of July 2010 in the North of Hungary
The Hungarian Red Cross is the Hungarian unit of the Red Cross international organization. Created in 1881, it provides medical assistance, food aid, accommodation and employment support services to particularly disadvantaged people. It runs 19 centers in Hungary.
From May to July 2010, Hungary was severely affected by very heavy rainfall leading to unprecedented flooding, with the evacuation of over 10,000 people rendered homeless by the floods. The Hungarian Red Cross set up a specific platform of assistance responding to the needs of the local population.
The Accor Foundation* supported this measure and helped the NGO to buy medicines and disinfectant products. The employees of the 19 hotels of Accor Hungary/Slovakia participated also actively in the relief operation by donating equipment, setting up a web address dedicated to employees, suppliers for on-line donations…).
* In 2013, the Accor Foundation became Solidarity Accor.
