« Handitouch » : insertion of people with accident handicaps through a new “handisport” discipline
SPUC Kangourous is an American football club, founded in Bordeaux in 1985. It has been carrying out social initiatives since 2012, such as “Touchdown City”, which arranges American football events for young people in disadvantaged neighbourhoods in the Pessac area.
In 2013, this sports club developped a new activity for handicapped people in Bordeaux and surrounding areas: “Handi Touchdown” (American football). This project aims at helping people with a recent handicap to reconstruct themselves and address their own social and professional reinsertion. Sport allows them to develop new capacities which are essential prerequisites to set them back on the path towards employment.
The Accor Foundation* supported the SPUC Kangourous for the development of this new activity.
* In 2013, the Accor Foundation became Solidarity Accor.
«Disability caused by accidents is something that concerns everyone. By working with this project, I hope to be able to help people find pleasure and interest anew through sport. »
