Providing training and employment opportunities for underprivileged youth via a sports centre in a disadvantaged neighbourhood
Sport dans la Ville, created in 1998, is the main association for professional integration through sport in France. Its programmes aim to support social and professional integration of its 5,000 young members. It has 32 sports centres in disadvantaged neighbourhoods in several cities in the Rhône-Alpes region (Lyon, Grenoble and Saint-Etienne) and the Ile-de-France region (Paris, Sarcelles, Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen, Drancy).
In 2017, the association plans to open a sports centre in the Fauconnière neighbourhood (Gonesse) to help local youth find employment.
Solidarity AccorHotels is supporting the construction of the sports field. The Novotel Roissy CDG Convention and Wellness teams, who work nearby, are backing the project by mentoring several young people in their job search preparation (interviews, CVs, etc.) or providing internships.
This project is one I find especially important because we are not all lucky enough to grow up in a privileged environment. As a sports enthusiast myself and knowing that sport is an incredible way to create social connections, I’m fully convinced that the Sport dans la Ville association is an effective tool to help young people find jobs.
