Modernising the “Casa Geraçao” so that young people from the favelas can train for the fashion industry in a more attractive setting
ModaFusion, a Franco-Brazilian NGO created in 2006, is engaged in a number of actions to enhance the image of the favelas.
The “Casa Geraçao”, a fashion college run by the NGO and located in the heart of the Vigidal favela, was created in 2013, based on the finding that Brazil’s favelas are vibrant centres of creativity. The college takes on 20 young people every year and trains them for the careers on offer in the fashion industry (dressmaking, modelling, photography, etc.). In light of the extremely positive results achieved by this project, and as it wishes to increase the number of young people being trained, the NGO is eager to renovate and expand its training centre.
Staff from Caesar Park Sofitel Rio de Janeiro and Solidarity AccorHotels are supporting this redevelopment project, which will also enable a women’s cooperative to be set up within the college.
Vidigal is part of the wonderful view of this hotel and could not go unnoticed, especially after I had the knowledge that there are so many young talents "hidden" that needs to be valued like any other young people who do not belong to a poor community.
