"Agonlinmi": supporting the professionalisation of three women's co-operatives producing Agonlin oil

Created in 1976, the GERES association works to preserve the environment, limit climate change and its consequences, reduce energy poverty and improve the living conditions of the populations.

Since 2012, in Benin GERES supports three women's co-operatives that produce Agonlin peanut oil under the name of Agonlinmi. This oil is very popular of Benin for its unique flavour. However, its high production cost means that the oil available on the market is often cut, resulting in poor consumer confidence and a decline in the demand. Faced with this fact and wishing to position their oil on a mid- to high-end market, the women producers must enhance their professional capabilities and ensure their production conditions and the quality of their oil.

To help them do so, in 2014 Solidarity Accor supported the training of 27 of them (management courses, negotiation techniques and sales techniques, etc.) and participated in the purchase of the raw materials needed for production (bottles, etc.).

I think it is very important to help others. And it is all the more important because these are women who seek to gain financial independence and become self-sufficient. This is a wonderful project with a future and which has the potential to be replicated around the country.
