Teaching carpentry to disadvantaged young people through the professionalisation of the production workshop

L'Ecole du Bois, a French NGO created in 2008, aims to assist young Cambodians from poor rural families by giving them the means to become independent, through vocational training, internships, social integration and the improvement of their living environment.

In Cambodia, young people represent over 40% of the population with little or no qualification. This is why the association offers carpentry training courses for these disadvantaged young people, giving them the theory and practice classes in its production workshop.

In order to ensure a better professional insertion of the young people, L'Ecole du Bois now wishes make its operation professional. In this context, the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra and Solidarity AccorHotels teams are giving the Association their support for the renovation of its production workshop (purchase of equipment and material).

The Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra has a particlar interest in wood craftsmanship, given its architecture and various wooden decoration items. In the hotel, we have two full-time carpenters-cabinetmakers in our maintenance staff and it seemed natural to creat strong bounds with "l'Ecole du Bois", focusing on teaching carpentry.
