Village Pilote, a model project which encourages socioeconomic development in Senegal!

Village Pilote works to provide support to children and young people, who lived in the streets of Dakar, and encourage them to become independent. Housing, meals, care as well as education and job seeking assistance are the forms of support required to encourage the development of these young people, who have broken off relations with their families. Solidarity AccorHotels and the teams from Pullman Dakar Teranga have supported the association since 2013 with the implementation of vocational training workshops (electricity, plumbing, etc.).

As a result of its initiatives, Village Pilote has become an important player in Senegal for young people’s education and job seeking. This was highlighted by the study and field assignment carried out by UNESCO in Dakar covering many of the association’s activities, which described it as a “promising model to promote socioeconomic development in Senegal and improve employment, as a result of a combination of writing and reading skills and also vocational training opportunities for vulnerable children and young people.”

This is a great source of encouragement for the association, which was able to capitalise on these very positive results by signing three agreements (strengthening links for instance with the Ministry of Vocational Training, Apprenticeship and Skilled Trades) with the Senegalese authorities, which demonstrate the strong commitment and widespread support for the themes which are so important to Village Pilote.
