The London AccorHotels teams welcome the French youngsters from Sport dans la Ville
Grace, aged 19, is currently studying for the 2nd year of her Assistant Manager technical certificate and dreams of working in the field of international trade. Since 2014, Sport dans la Ville, a long-standing partner of Solidarity AccorHotels, has supported this young girl in defining her career path. Needing to improve their English, Grace and 7 other young people of the charity were welcomed by the London AccorHotels teams. The aim of the encounter: to discover the hospitality trades, "in English" of course!
"Job dans la Ville" provides professional orientation support for disadvantaged young people
When Grace joined the "Job dans la Ville" programme following her older brother’s advice, she had only just finished high school and had no idea of what she wished to do after that. The charity's teams accompanied her through the different stages of her professional project: orientation workshops, visits to partner businesses, mentoring and sponsoring by the Director of Human Resources of the HomeServe Group, etc. All these actions allowed Grace to make her choice: she wants to work in international trade.
Within its "Job dans la Ville" programme, the charity offers some youngsters an international path to improve their command of foreign languages and allows them to travel to the UK. On the agenda: weekly English lessons, support for the international job search and trip to London to meet with partner companies! Grace's sound career project, as well as her determination throughout her studies, meant she was chosen to be one of the 8 young people selected to take part in this course in 2016.
Experience-sharing and involvement by London AccorHotels teams
During the school holidays, the teams of the ibis and Novotel Blackfriars welcomed Grace and the other youngsters of the "Job dans la Ville" international experience. After visiting the properties, the AccorHotels employees gave them an overview of the various activities in the hospitality and catering sector.
At the end of this encounter, Grace spoke with the Food & Beverage Manager of the Novotel Blackfriars of her desire to take part in a discovery internship within AccorHotels. This led to her being offered a 2-month professional experience at the hotel. This opportunity allowed her to continue to improve her English while gaining in-depth knowledge of the catering trades!
Grace told us of the very international nature of this experience, which enabled her to enrich her professional skills and that will help her when searching for a job in the future: "I loved this professional experience that allowed me to come into contact with customers of many nationalities. It was what I liked the most! I was part of the morning team in charge of breakfast, and I also found this team to be very diverse, with Italians, Spaniards, Romanians and French people! In a few weeks at Novotel, I have matured a lot and become more confident, as well as improving my English considerably." The challenge was successful!
With their active participation in this discovery programme, the ibis and Novotel Blackfriars employees in London have demonstrated a spirit of solidarity that transcends borders!
