Thailand: The Passport, a teaching restaurant not to be missed in Mae Sot!

The IECD (Institut Européen de Coopération et de Développement) teaching restaurant The Passport, supported by Solidarity Accor and the AccorHotels teams in Thailand, was awarded the TripAdvisor certificate of excellence* in 2015 and is ranked No.1 in the city of Mae Sot! Impressive results, indicative of the commitment of the association and of its beneficiaries.

In Thailand, the IECD has set up a two-year training course in the hotel and catering trades for young Karens, a disenfranchised minority with little access to education. The aim is to enable the young beneficiaries to become self-reliant in a sector where the demand for skilled labour is high.

The Passport allows first- and second-year students to put into practice in the kitchen and in service the skills acquired over the previous week of lessons. The restaurant, open from Thursday to Saturday, serves two different set menus: the "European", featuring occidental flavours, and the "Asian", focusing on regional specialties. The 40 covers of The Passport are a true challenge for the youngsters, who learn through practice...

...and it pays off! In fact, the restaurant was given the TripAdvisor certificate of excellence, awarded to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews. This recognition, weighing many different criteria such as the rating and number of reviews, is a truly distinctive sign for a restaurant and a guarantee of quality. Today the restaurant is ranked No.1 in the city. So remember the name if you visit Mae Sot!
