Ghana : Better than expected results for the OrphanAid Africa NGO's YASS project!

In 2013, Solidarity Accor supported the YASS (Young Adults Support Services) project aimed at supporting young people in difficulties starting adult life, to encourage them to continue studying and help them enter the labour market. After one year, the results are very encouraging.

It allowed 73 young adults to benefit from a social and professional support (only 64 were initially planned). Every action undertaken was heartily approved by the beneficiaries. Thus, 76 young people have taken part in the Rallye annuel de la Jeunesse, an event gives them the opportunity to get together and network. Finally, the weekly follow-up sessions during which the youngsters talked to social workers, were also very popular, with an average of 47 participants per session.

The Novotel Accra City Center teams were considerably involved, working beside OrphanAid Africa. During the Solidarity Week in December 2013, the hotel staff helped in the renovation of the homes of foster families and the NGO's premises, as well as organising a wine sale which earned 3,000 euros given directly to the NGOS. Since the beginning of 2014, the teams have collected 14 bags of bed linens and towels, very useful for the families. Lastly, on 21 February 2014, Marc Frère, project holder and Novotel Accra City Center General Manager, visited the NGO to present his actions and talk with the young people. He speaks of the program's success: "OrphanAid Africa is doing important work, and we can see the results of their actions and this motivates us to do better!"

In July 2014, Violetta Kumi, Novotel Accra City Center HRM, will receive a new intern: Gifty, a young beneficiary of the YASS project currently studying at Transafrica university. The highly motivated and enthusiastic Gifty said: "I am really excited by this opportunity and I look forward to learning by working with Violetta!"
