Cologne: check presented to himmel & ääd e.V. NGO!

In the morning of Friday, 26 February, at the Mercure Hotel Köln City Friesenstrasse in Germany, Laurent Picheral, CEO HotelServices Central and Eastern Europe, Tom Troebs, General Manager Mercure Hotel Köln City Friesenstrasse and Christine of Longevialle, Managing Director of Solidarity AccorHotels, presented a check for 20,000 euros to the NGO Himmel & ääd e.V.

This project, involving many employees of three Mercure hotels in Cologne, has received support from Solidarity AccorHotels since end 2015. Its aim is to enable 40 young people from extremely disadvantaged families to receive vocational guidance.

This press conference was attended by over a dozen journalists, as well as many Group employees strongly involved in the project. Laurent Picheral stressed "the impressive and remarkable commitment of the employees, mobilized in favour of these young people experiencing hardship". Since 2012, the Accorhotels teams of the 3 Mercure hotels in the city cook and supply lunch for the structure's beneficiaries. With this project, they wish to take things a step further, supporting the youngsters in their search for employment.

The NGO CEO Gabriele Gérard-Post remarked on the programme's value in a city where almost 4,000 young people aged 15 to 25 have no training or employment: "Unfortunately many children are completely unsupported, left to their own devices and experience significant difficulties in school. Our goal is, as far as possible, to assist and accompany them."

Christine of Longevialle insisted that it is important for Solidarity AccorHotels to provide supplementary financial support to a project sponsored by a large number of employees.
