Assessment of the partnership with KnK Japan

Following the earthquake and tsunami that laid waste to Japan on 11 March 2011, at the request of Japanese employees, the Accor Foundation joined forces with the association KnK Japan (Kokkyo naki Kodomotachi, or Children without Borders). An assessment of this fruitful partnership.

Under the partnership with the KnK Japan association, a €20,000 emergency fund was earmarked by the Accor Foundation to purchase and distribute first urgency supplies(blankets, diapers, food, powdered mil, etc.) in Iwate prefecture. The employees of the Accor group throughout the world also had the chance to contribute to this project through the creation of a website allowing them to make online donations to KnK Japan.

In addition, for the first time, the Accor Foundation invited A/Club (Accor client loyalty card) members to join in the initiative to help Japan.

  • The URL of the page to make online donations was also made available to A/Club members and other Group’s clients. This allowed €9,712 to be collected for KnK Japan.
  • Booking a hotel in Japan last summer allowed members to quadruple their A/Club points. The bonus points were converted into funds and donated to KnK Japan under the campaign “To Japan’s Children with Love” (in support of children in areas strongly affected by the tsunami). This raised€11.418,72 during the summer.
